The fire-fighting samurai who stopped that great blaze came to be known by this name—Fire-Eating Bird.
Once called the “Fire-Eating Bird,” Gengo Matsunaga was Edo’s finest fire-fighting samurai. Though he had left the profession for personal reasons, he suddenly receives an offer to enter the service of the Shinjō Domain.
The Shinjō Domain’s fire brigade is broke, short on manpower, and looked down upon by everyone around them. Encouraged by his wife, Miyuki, Gengo takes on the role of leader and sets out to rebuild the crumbling brigade.
Gathering a band of misfits with more than a few quirks, Gengo and his comrades struggle on—mocked as a group of “ragged firemen”—yet remain determined to save every life, no matter what.
